An
interactive web page is simply a page where the web surfer determines
not only which page they see but also what
they see. Sound confusing? You probably see them all the time without
realizing it. A few examples of this type of page are:
- E-Commerce
Sites. Everybody sees only their items in their
shopping cart.
- Search
Engines, such as Google.
- Customized
pages, Such as My MSN and My Yahoo (you choose the color schemes,
etc)
- Any
page that greets you by name.
In
the beginning, so to speak, all pages were static-everybody saw
the same thing. This created an e-commerce nightmare. Everytime
your inventory changed (bought, sold, removed, added, whatever),
you had to publish an update to your website. Also, if your product
line was large, you had alot of pages to create/update. With the
advent of server-side interactive languages, such as Active Server
Pages (ASP), ASP .NET and ColdFusion Markup (CFM), you can now publish
your existing product database (product catalog) and never again
update a single page-house that database on your web site and never
update anything! This ability is not limited to e-commerce. Define
cutomer mailing lists, track access to your site, grant your staff
data access from home and on the road, just to name a few. Click
